How we use waste wool

We raise sheep for their wool. The quality of our sheep wool changes season to season, year to year, with the quality of hay and forage they are exposed to. Our Fall(September) cut(shearing) is our best, as the sheep have been of lush forest and pastures for 5 months. This wool is available for sale, through our Asgard Tog and Thel website. The spring(March) cut, can be variable, if it has felted on the sheep, it is assessed for rug production(vegan skin rug) or is determined as wool waste. Therefore, in both shearing seasons, there is waste wool.

We chop and use our waste wool in our gardens and in our pasture.

Wool has a great advantage when composting, it ensures a slow and steady release of nitrogen (N) into the surrounding soil – wool contains on average 10-11% nitrogen, more than some commercially available composts. Nitrogen fertilization supports plant root growth.

If you are a sheep farmer on the Sunshine Coast of BC, we are interested in buying your waste wool.
